Default Engine Build

Hi guys i have a project in mind that involves a new engine build for my 2002 F150 super cab 4x4. I would lile to keep the correct ford option for the 5.4 triton engine. Here is where it gets tricky. I am thinking about adding more power under the hood. Shes got over 220k miles and still runs good as is but i would like to build something fresh to drop into it. I am wondering should i go out and buy a lightening engine rebuild it and stuff it in or just modify the average 5.4 just lile the one thats in it. The power i am looking for is pulling and towing power not drag racing power. I just need it to be reliable as a daily driver. Whats some of your ideas? I know there are various upgrades such as programmers and different intake mods but i need a little more foot to *** than that. So if anyone has any ideas without making it a top fuel dragster please post up and let me know.

Glad to help, finally some one outlines what they are looking for. Towing you want throttle response, and low end grunt. I would do a stock rebuild with forged pistons. A set Comp Cam Xtreme Energy XE262AH, Set of OBX lontubes, BBK TB, and a good tune from 5 Star tuning or Bill @ PHP. I run a similar setup and I'm currently making 296/349 Corrected to the wheels. Also look into a better torque converter. I'm currently running a Suncoast Billet converter with a stall speed of 1600. It will flash to 1800. With good tuning you will see approximate gain of around 80-90 Hp but will see around 130-140 ft/lbs of tq.

Man that is awesome. Ask a question and someone here always has the knowledge to spit out what you need in great detail. I will look into those items and see what other info i can dig up. I would have quoted you but i cant figure out how on my phone yet lol

Also look into a Factory tech rebuild or even buy his monster box trans. It will cover the major basis while towing. Also look into a Tru-cool 40k transcooler. It is the same unit used on the 2v V10 Superduty's. It will help keep the trans cool not only in daily driving, but it will help make the trans last longer while towing. I have recently had 9k behind my truck, and never saw trans temps over 160.

As for my truck being 2 or 3 valve im pretty sure its 2 I didn't even know 3 was an option in my truck. It has no special decals or emblems regarding a 3 valve system. I downloaded that VinWow app you see on tv and that thing is junk and told me my truck was a older model chevy ? wtf ? lol. Anyways i have no idea if it would be a 3 valve system.

As for the trans yes i will be looking into swapping that out too and adding a cooler for sure. Do you have a link to where i can find that trans and cooler that was mentioned above ? I am not a trans guy and don't really want to go diving into one that i have to count on as a daily driver lol. My skills are skills you use under the hood not under the truck unless it is breaks or something normal like that.

Here is the link for the trans cooler. http://www.transmissioncoolers.us/47391.html

It is the same as the one used on the 99-02 V10 superdutys. Only difference is it does not have the mounting brackets welded on. Here is a picture of it mounted on my truck to give you a idea of its size.

As far as a transmission goes Factory Tech are the awesome if you have a 4R100. if your truck is equipped with a 4R70W you may have to look into other options. I have no experience dealing with them. I have a 4R100.

Thanks for the Link and the Added Picture. Its not even really noticeable unless you are just looking for it. That is what i like, Hidden and still very useful !

I am For sure going to look into this for my project. Anything that makes my truck run better and be more reliable is well worth the time and investment in extras like this.

How would i go about finding out exactly what equipment my truck came with as far as engine specs transmissions and transfer case. I was told the gears have been swapped to 3:55's front and back but isn't that a factory option ?

Maybe a VIN decoder ? I know the VinWow App sucks...

You can take your vin to the dealer and have a complete vehicle run down done.
