Default Engaging 4x4 while driving

Have an 02 with 4x4, *** on the dash that activates it. Drove a friend's Chevy (gag) and in it I can engage with 4x4 while driving. Can I do this in my F150 or do I need to come to a stop, put it in park, then engage?

I have an 01 f-150 i love it.. i have the manual shift on the floor.. i do it as long as you are going under 25 mph you should be able to shift into 4x4 no problems at all.

As long as you're not running 50mph I'm sure you're fine. I've done it in an F-250 that we use to use all the time at work and it never tore anything up.

In my 2002 owner's manual it says you can switch to 4 hi anywhere from a stop up to 55mph. But if it is below 32 degrees F then no faster than 45mph.

I shift in and out with the switch on the dash at highway speeds of 50-70 mph. As long as your wheels are not spinning, you are good. Obviously if ya shift into 4L from 4H, you have to stop and put transmission into neutral, shift into 4L, then wait a second or two, then put in drive and go. Never had any issues going down highway while shifting in or out...

i would recommend shifting into at 45 MPH on the fly, and shifting out i dont think speed really matters as long as your coasting and not on the gas, same goes for shifting into 4H
