I had the same problem and it turned out it was the motor the actually switches it into 4WD. I believe they said it was directly mounted to the T-case.

Was your dash light lighting up like it was in 4wd but it really wasn't? Transfer case...or was it on the firewall on the passenger side?

The 4X4 light wasn't even coming on.

I believe it was the T-case, but now i'm not too sure.

You may be right on the location. I only ask because there is a Vacuum motor on the firewall that tends to go bad. I'm not sure if this is what you were talking about.

Yea it definetely wasn't on the firewall b/c I remember asking him where this part was and he said it was bolted (4) on to the side of the the T-case (I assume) and was used to engage and disengaged the 4wd.

I also had my truck do that, it would say 4x4 but still would be in two wheel drive. I brought it in under warrant and had that motor also replaced.

Alright I disconnected the vacuum lines from solonoid at the fire wall and I had vacuum there on both lines. I swapped them around and nothing. I also unhooked the lines from the transfer case and didn't have any vacuum there. Anymore suggestions
