Electrical bug

I agree with Tackle, my truck did the same thing. Light rain, it was behind my garage and when I came outside I thought someone was trying to steal my truck! I ran around only to find it trying to start itself repeatedly!!! I had many of the same symptoms earlier. Lights, switches, dome lights all switching on and off. Ended up costing me 2 new starters and a flywheel! My fix was re sealing the windshield and a plastic cover. No more problems since! Could be a really dangerous situation and needs to be fixed! I was driving to work in the dark morning while raining when all at the same time me headlights turned off, wipers stopped working, and dome lights came on! I couldn't see the road at all and had to pull over till everything functioned again.

That's enough to freak yuh out lol.
Mine began to crank over as I was washing it. Same thing two or three different times...same wash job.
Fortunately, it didn't screw up the FW or starter.

Speaking of bugs, I thought I had my Expy all fixed. My Wife just called and said it died on her while she was making a turn and it lit up every light on the dash. This somebitch is about to get a for sale sign in it. Way tired of effing with it.
Luckily she made it home.

Just out of curiosity... my Buddy suggested I fill the two fuse box bulkhead connections with dielectric grease to help prevent water from getting in there. Have any of you tried that before? When mine was doing all of that stuff that KingTriton's is, the water was in the fuse box rather than the GEM. You can see where I found the water in mine in the bottom of this connector.
My GEM has a cover on it that I believe is keeping the water out of it.
By the way KingTriton, this worked really well for me. I put the whole deal in a bucket with a 5 lb bag of rice for 24 hours.

That adds a new twist to " ricing out your truck.

A while back I think I did a thread about the GEM. It got wet... and that's why I riced it. But since then it's got wet again. My back is too messed up right now so I can't go pull it.... nor can I find the leak like this (I am going in Monday to see when I get surgery).

That's got to be one of the worst debilitating pains there is. Mine comes and goes, Docs throwing pain killers at it for now. Not sure what's worse, dealing with side effects or the pain ?!
Anyway, isn't there a way waterproof the GEM until you breakdown and get the windshield resealed ? I know they have been using a different product/formulation to seal windshields now, = 'window weld' vs the old stuff...carp can't recall what that was called, - a butyl formulation or sealer I believe. Ford uses different butyl formulations for windows and panels throughout the cab. Yea , I watched mine leak, - it just misses the fuse block/GEM. But that's only dependent upon the elevation the truck is parked on or way it sits. The truck has been garage kept most of it's life, probably the only thing that has saved it from getting worse.
Perhaps you can paint the fuse block and GEM with Dielectric.

I just bought a new jar of dielectric grease a couple days before my back started acting up. So I will for sure be trying that out. I've also got a good fuse box out of a 97 that I can swap right into it. Got the GEM out of that Expedition too just in case.
I am hoping there is an alternative to surgery for me, but from what I can tell in my MRI there's a crushed disc and a herniated disc. The latter is pushing on my sciatic nerve and pretty much keeps my butt in check.... literally.

Yea, I'd put something on it if that is indeed the problem. A good dielectric that doesn't solidify.

If anybody is interested, this is what I plan to use on it. It has a stable consistency between -55 and 570 degrees Fahrenheit. I actually used this on a machine at work to adhere a processor fan to the processor because the paste failed.
