I had a water temp gauge act weird. Well it acted exactly like a shorted sensor. It would only indicate full hot or full cold... like plugging and unplugging a shorted sensor. After a few sensors and troubleshooting with a potentiometer I finally replaced the cluster and it was fixed lol. Not what I expected.

Same thing that happened to my oil pressure gauge AND battery gauge. Oil pressure was pegged and battery wouldn't show anything. The really weird thing was they ALL worked normal until the engine warmed up, then there was a click behind the dash and they went haywire.

No problem man. Yea just got done building/installing a new hd (heavy gauge) costume ignition harness. Just from the bulk head connector under the hood. Prepping my 4G battery bat/alt harness now...currently brushing in the lifetime conductive 'A Special' grease at the single cable connectors/lugs, along with non conductive moly grease (lifetime as well) at the multi- gang connectors. I went with moly vs dielectric here. This way I won't be snapping connectors upon removal. Using the good stuff this time...no more bad connects, corrosion, weak circuits or downtime with this old truck. Well hopefully lol.

Good luck with yours. I'll have to troubleshoot all that stuff in the near future as well. I know I have bad contact pads in the switches (pw, door locks etc) which will require cleaning/servicing. It's old, It's work, but fun to restore.
