Default EGr flow problems

I have an 5.4l F150 super crew 4x4. A friend had me clean the throttle body, and I put a vaccumm to the EGR valve, he said it should have shut off the motor at full open but it just kept running along. Any help?

Try having someone use a rag to plug the tailpipe while you apply vacuum to the valve. Is it holding vacuum? Is the CEL on?

Usually the EGR ports in the plenum the TB is bolted to get clogged solid with carbon. Thy're right behind the TB on the right side, there's two maybe 3/8" ports that turn into one and lead to the EGR valve. You should be able to hold the TB open and see them. If you pull the EGR valve off you should be able to shove a screwdriver or pick or something into the port to see if it's clogged.

I think it's a p0401 code that turns the light on when this happens. EGR insufficient flow IIRC.
