Default Edge programmer on 98 4.2 v6

I own a 98 4.2 5 speed and have thought about purchasing a edge programmer. There website does not have a option for the 4.2. I've looked this up and I see some websites say they work then some they don't. Does anyone have one. Or know if it will work.

I have heard that if you call them they can work out a programmer for you. But they don't have a standard one for the V6 4.2.

Our 97-98s are fairly limited on what tuners can do. 99 and up is much better for a tuner. Those years can set the speed correctly and many other features that are unavailable in our earlier Gen 10's.

I have a 1715 Superchips tuner (High tech in 98, but low tech by todays standards) but have since set my teal 98 back to stock. The 4.6 seems to run much better that way. I use a Diablo on my Mustang, and it does so many extra features that weren't even listed on either of my 98 F150s.

I think I'm going to try it on the red 98 FS when I get it back tonight or tomorrow and see how the 5.4 works with this tuner. This tuner (not really a great tuner, but sufficient for this application), also shows to have the program in it for the 4.2, 4.6 and 5.4.

The general consensus is don't waste your money on a programmer, unless you are trying to adjust for changes already made. The cost to return ratio on them is just too high. The 4.2 is limited as to what it can do as it is, unless you are going for a total rebuild with high performance in mind. If that's your bag, then hit the guys up over at http://www.supersixmotorsports.com/.

They are plugged into the OBD port and then programmed into the computer.

Like Fubar said, they aren't all that great for the cost vs. rewards. I only had mine because a buddy sold his truck, returned to stock, and gave me his. Otherwise, with my 98, there is a lot to be desired from this tool.

Unless as said you are going to be doing heavy moding the tuner won't do much at all with the manual trans.
