The knock sensor measures the point of ping and retards accordingly.. if your pinging because of the tune/not high enough octane gas....a knock sensor will get thrown if the tune is aggressive enough.
EDIT: Iv had several friends, and myself included have knock sensor codes from timing either being advanced to far or as simple as my fiance not putting 93 octane in my old car when I had an aggressive tune programmed.

10-15hp and far better shifting. The only "better" ones would be custom tuned, so the Gryphon combines the Edge with custom tuning. A SCT Xcal 3 is also a good custom option.
