Default Driving Lights

I have a 97 F150 4WD Flairside. I drive in the mountains in the winter and I need more lighting. I find it particularly hard to see when the roads are wet. was looking for a good option for ancillary lighting mounted to the bumper. Anyone found any good solutions?

Thank You

John

Amber fog lights help my vision tremendously in the rain/fog at night. I’m talking Amber lens not yellow bulbs. Best ones I’ve used were Hella, correct light pattern.

Thank you for the tip. My truck has the factory fog lights. Did you replace those with the Hella or did you mound additional fog lights?

Mine has factory fogs as well. I ran the Hella lamps on a 08 E250 I had before. I put yellow bulbs in the Transit Connect with factory fogs that I had after that. Waste of $$ and effort. At this point I’ve not added separate ambers to my truck but I will before the winters inclement weather. Optics in the stand alone fogs are a major improvement over stocks.

If you find a brand with good amber lights, you can run eithe a 6" pod or 2 4" pods in the fog light holes. You could also install a brushguard to give you more mounting options for lights. Then there is also the ability to put a curved 32" light bar behind the grill with basically no modifications needed. Also are your headlight housings in good shape? Might be time to buy some new ones and get some quality bulbs in there too.

Thank you for the ideas. My housings are “ok”. It has been in my list to replace those as well. I was thinking about the light behind the grill. I like that option. Was wondering if the grill would obstruct the light much.

Remember, fog lights need to be mounted low to reduce glare. Driving lights high, fog lights low.

Anytime I flipped on my behind the grill bar, I never was short on light. yes you lose some light... but you are gaining a whole heck of a lot more with that bar to begin with. If you look up 02kingranch (I believe is his name) he made the thread on installing it behind the grill. I followed is thread and had zero issues with installation.
And yes fog lights should be mounted low, so they dont reflect the light back into your face.

I installed Hella 500 driving lights behind the grille in my '03,and gave absolutely no regrets. I think I posted about the install in my build thread: https://www.f150forum.com/f6/startin...g-scab-355367/

Since your truck is a 1997 the wide opening in your bumper is perfect for auxiliary fog lights.
