NGM, you're right. i didn't do my research on the products until after i posted and i should have done that first. sorry if you feel like i wasted your time, but i was mostly wondering if any of the kits were overly difficult to install or poorly made. i really appreciate you guys chiming in and letting me know your thoughts on the kits but ultimately the instructions and the R&D swayed me to the S&B kit.

1) how do you know that theother kit has as much r&d as the k&n kit? Christ, its most likely just a rip off of another brand.

2) did you even look at the instructions for the k&n kit? if you cant figure it out from those instructions, Im guessing you hard time putting your socks on this morning.

www.sbfilters.com

check it out if you care to.
1)yes i looked at K&N's instructions. yes i can put in a cold air kit with their instructions and yes i DID put my socks on this morning without incidence . i didn't say their instructions were BAD, i said i liked S&B's BETTER. I could have put BBK's kit in based on their instructions which was like 10 steps with no pictures.

2) almost everything in the aftermarket is a rip off of someone else's stuff. cold airs have been around over half a century in one way or another (cowl induction, ram air, shaker hoods, etc.) and K&N is no more the creator of the cold air kit than the first guy to run A/C ducting or otherwise from his grille to his air cleaner.

look i don't want to start an argument over who's is better than who's. i'm certainly not going to do back to back dyno tests to see who's is better. i just decided on this kit because i liked what i saw and i'm apologizing for making it seem like i was ignoring anyone's advice. i searched this site and found a couple posts regarding the S&B kits that gave me a pretty favorable impression and checked them out, liked it, and bought it. end of story. i'll be more than happy to report my satisfaction and results as soon as i get the kit installed!

All i could Find on the s&b web site was that their filter can catch just about the sdame particulate matter as the OEM ford filter, and they did their tests with a 5.4.

K&N has been around 35 years and is a rather global company, where S&B has been arounf 30 years, and only appears to be in canada(?).

The K&N 57 series shows a gain of 13 hp on a 98 5.4 with 98k on the clock. They even have the dyno sheet to prove it.

Im not saying that s&b is a crap company, In just saying that K&N has their **** together, and can show me a picture that proves how well their product works.

"That kills me, a person comes on asks for advice and all the advice is the same, to the point that the summit kit is a K&N kit.. then they go with something else.. Why even ask for advice at all???"

I think he just asked for "advice" not "orders". Maybe if somebody had something really bad to say about it, than he wouldn't have chosen it???

Well when I ask for advice and all the advise points towards one thing then I usually follow that advice. That way of doing things has not failed me yet... I just figured other ppl did the same thing. I STRESS that I do not know anything about the other kits. I did not and am not going to research the other kits. I just know how well mine was built, mine added twice the claimed hp.
