Don't forget to call the police and report the mailbox that jumped out in front of you.

How fast was the mailbox going? did it veer into your lane? did it leave the scene? Did it have ins.? the only way your going to fix this is a body shop and your probably looking at minor metalwork and filler and a repaint if you want it to look right

There was no mention of how he handled the situation other than worry about his truck, the mailbox was stationary so it has to be driver error whether accident or weather related. The mailbox belongs to somebody and by the looks of the damages to the truck it wasn't a cheap little stand-alone so if it belonged to one of us, we would be bashing the person causing the damage.
Pull out your man card and get it resolved before the police get involved, leaving the scene of an accident can get pretty costly.
Those of you that think this is bashing somebody, ask your parents how they would feel if there property were damaged and they got stuck paying to get it fixed.

I know this is about your truck but I beleive it would be very respectable to pay for their box first. There's not too many honest people around. That'll help you and Mr. Mailbox. JMO

First off, y'all who think you're cool because you'd just leave it, I was raised better. It was 1am so I didn't try to go to the door. I left a note but haven't heard back. I believe the house is empty and for sale. If that is the case, I will go and repair the mailbox myself tomorrow or Saturday. I was raised to do the right thing even it is detrimental to me. With that said, I don't want to pay a bunch of money to a body shop because until I grow up some and stop driving the thing through the woods, it's gonna get more scratches. I just don't want it to rust. What's the chances of being able to find the manufacturer color and touch it up myself or having someone mix it for me? To those of you offering helpful advice, or even the funny tips such as plastidip, I appreciate it, I've thought of the same thing. What about a stripe across the back of the hood and wrap it around run it down both sides.

I'm thinking a body shop would charge $700+

A good body shop can scope the paint on your truck and match the color, trying to buy it at a supply house probably won't work because of paint fade. Just a fast fix without a lot of bodywork should be a lot less than $700. That's great that you were raised to be responsible and are taking care of the mailbox.
