Default Dipstick length

Sounds like a stupid question but can someone confirm what the actual length of the engine oil dipstick should be from the base of the plastic head to the base of the metal part?

I have a 2001 4.6 XL 4x4

Thanks

We're all assuming (at least I am, anyway) that you need to replace your dipstick. Best thing to do is fill it with 6 quarts, start it up, then let it sit for the oil to settle. Then scribe your own "full mark" on the replacement. Trim it if needed.

The one that is in it is not a wire one with the weight at the bottom.

It's a flat metal one withthe usual style twist at the bottom.

The truck is new to me and prior to being delivered had an oil and filter change done.

There are no warning lights on but also no oil showing in the dipstick whether the oil is cold or warm.

Hence asking what the length should be.

Thanks

Should change the oil pronto then. Do the 6 quart thing as mentioned above and mark the stick or find one long enough. It's too important not to.

Also as I am going to be changing the oil any issues with using a vacuum extraction system for that rather than crawling underneath and using an oil pan etc?

Thanks
