Default Diesel in a 150?

I was wondering if anyone has ever put a diesel into their f150. I've been debating selling my truck and getting a new diesel but I just cant justify the cost 50k + for one. So I was thinking maybe I can put a diesel into my truck thats already paid off.

Any info or help on parts needed might be great.

lotta work... unless your 110% in love with the f150s... In the August issue of Diesel Power Magazine there is an article about a guy who put a Cummins in a Ranger... If i remember right, it cost him about 50k... Your better off buying a 7.3 stroker

I know plenty of guys who have done Cummins 4BT swaps for less than $5K. I'm planning one eventually and I just PMed a guy who is looking at a 6BT swap (5.9 you find in Dodges). I can give you tons of info on them if you'd like to look into it. The 4BT only makes 130 hp but 300 lb-ft of torque. For under $1000 you can upgrade them with 200cc injectors, turbo upgrades, 4200 rpm gov spring and exhaust springs, a stage 2 fuel pin and make close to 320 hp and well over 500 lb-ft. If your a 4.2/4.6 guy, those transmissions bolt right up to the B series engines. 5.4 guys need an adapter. If your automatic you need a standalone controller which can be found at fordcummins.com along with the adapter for the 5.4. 4btswaps.com is another really good forum for getting info on a diesel swap into the 10th gen f150. Most guys happily run their 4bts at 200 hp and 400 lb-ft or less and get about 30 mpg on the highway.

Some of the diesel techs I know have thrown around the idea of putting the 4.5 V6 PSD into F150's but they all suggested to me going the route of the 4bt. Since I love the 6BT ISB CR my father has in his Dodge, I have really looked into a 4BT swap for when I have the money. Only real difficult part is getting the cruise control to work right because depending on which route you take can be cheap but require a machinist and a water jet.

I main reason or asking this isn't because I'm looking to making tons of power. Simple something different. I just want people to hear a diesel in the f150 and go WTF! I also wouldn't mind blowin smoke lol. Does anyone know what the 4BT might sound like and is it possible to blow smoke like the bigger diesels?

I know this might sound pointless but I'm always looking for something to tinker with and I just don't have the money to a new truck so I want to go with something different.

The only thing my truck tows is my boat.

Sounds like a great idea and it is simple and problem free.
I would do the conversion today even if it costs $ 30,000!
Go for it.
