It worked in mine when the fuel pump was screwing up. 4.2L V6 though, if that would make a difference, and it's a '98.

Maybe the later ones have a fuel pressure sensor or something and the computer cuts off spark when pressure is low.

We've tried it plenty here in the past, w V8's and 10's, cans of it lol. Even when the pump was working just at low pressure. What kind do you use? I'll give it a go next go round. Works great if the engine is carbureted.

Back to your original post:
"So I have an 03 5.4. I was driving home and all of a sudden my truck starts dying. I'll press the gas and it would go then stop and it finally died so i pulled off to the side of the road. I tried to start it again and it turns over but wont start."

I had the near exact same thing happen to my 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee a few days ago. I put in a new alternator, drove it 5 or 6 times, then it died while driving down the street. I didn't have spark or any power at the fuses in the box by the battery. I put the old alternator back in and it started right up and has run fine. It still has the low voltage reading that caused me to change alt's in the 1st place of course. I guess the new alternator developed a short internally or somehow the circuit failed and the computer couldn't or wouldn't let the ignition system function.

Maybe your new fuel pump did something similar, or maybe your alternator failed that day it died.
