Default Detail question.

I want to have my supercrew detailed, exterior only. It needs a good buffing as it has only been hand waxed 2-3 times a year since new in '01. My question is: are the buffer wheel things you can buy at wal mart any good and what should I expect to pay should I take it to a pro?

I did mine myself it took around 5 1/2 or 6 hours total. Spent 60$ at wal mart for the turtle wax brand polisher (6 1/2inch) and all the liquids you need. (Meguiars Ultimate Compound, Meguiars deep crystal polish) I got glymol wax and a clay bar also. It was easy just followed the how to detail your truck thread in the how to section on here. Very very satisfied Don't pay anybody to do something you can do yourself! But that's my opinion

Did you use the clay bar or buffer first?

First you just wash the truck, you don't have to dry it then go over it all with the clay bar. Then if your looking to do "Paint Correction" (Removing swirls, scratches, etc) you take the buffer and use the meguiars ultimate compound working 2x2 sections making sure you work the polish in. then follow with meguiars deep crystal polish to remove the finer swirls and scratches and bring out the color then wax by hand and polishing cloth to buff it out. Bam your done truck looks like new again
