Default dash and radio

98 5.4

my dash lights randomly went out, along with the air controls and 4x4 switch, and the whole radio besides the little screen. the blinkers and warning lights work on the dash, but thats it it.

then today, while driving, my radio turned itself down and back up a few times.

any idea what could cause all this?

This actually happened to me a couple days. I eneded up kicking the fuse block. And everything woorked. I had to replace the fuseblock and gem for other reasons and that fixed it.
It seems like the problem was my fuses were loose and losing contacts.

On the back side of the fuse block on the bottome (towards floor board) should be two huge plugs. Right above the two huge plugs on the back of the fuse block is the GEM. To get to it I found it easier to disconnect the battery. Remove the lower panel (the one the brake release and hood release are connected to). Remove the little steering frame thing (two little bars hanging off the steering column). Disconnecting the bolts on the huge plugs and the four nuts you can see on the front of the fuse block. Pull it out and disconnect the three plugs into the GEM. Once you have the fuse block/GEM out its 3 screws and pull off the gem.
