Hey guys, replaced the rotors hoping that's what was squeaking but it wasn't. I noticed tho the driver side cv axle were it goes into the differential has play in it. Is it supposed to? If not is it a bearing that's bad? I have a intermittent squeaking only while driving at 20+ mph. It's not constant which made me think the rotor was warped. I checked the wheel bearings and the wheels don't move. Any ideas?

If you have a stub shaft that has some play in it you would have diff oil leaking on the ground.

I think I know what your talking about. And if it didn't have play then would you be able to steer or flex any. That shaft moves back and forth

Cv axle-image-3191349854.jpg

The plate the cv axle mounts too they are tight together, but where it goes into the housing I can wiggle it. I don't have..haven't seen a fluid leak. But if it was low on fluid the front diff would lock up right?

It moves a little in and out but I can push it up and down too. But it does make sense that it should flex some. This squeaking is gettin me..

Is it coming from the front or the rear? If your sure it's the front it could be the bushings, particularly the torsion bar one

The stub shaft that goes in the diff should not move in and out at all. It should be tight. If the axle stub shaft is moving you may need to open up the diff an inspect it.

Ya I know it's the front, it's a rotational squeak,
Is it ok of the part going into the diff goes up or down? Or absolutely no play should be found

There should be a slight in and out play in the stub shaft, but no up and down mvement in the stub shaft.

Sounds like a wheel bearing. Jack up your truck grab your tires at 12 and 6 and if there's play or squeaks its a bad wheel bearing
