Hi all. My dad told me when I got the truck from him that the coolant temp guage in the cluster never goes above the 2nd line. He said it's due to the coolant temp sensor being bad. He said it was in a bad spot on the intake manifold and that he didn't replace it when he was working on some things. Is it a bad thing to not have this sensor working? If I should replace it, where exactly is it? I have looked in my Haynes manual and can't find it on the truck itself.

You don't have a coolant sensor. It's a cht(cylinder head temp) sensor. It's screwed into the head under in intake manifold.

 

AH! That's what I was afraid of. Darn. Well, is it something that should be replaced or is it ok to leave it the way it is? The temp never registers over the 2nd line on the gauge.

 

Fan clutch could be stuck too

 

If the fan clutch were stuck, would the fan not work?

 

It could be stuck and turning all the time instead of being a clutch. Leave the enginge off and try to turn it by hand, it should turn easily.
