Converting non-LS diff to LS
The on-off functionality was referring to a full locker since that was suggested above as a drop-in alternative. No, the truck is not my DD. It's only used on weekends to haul stuff around. I expect to only put maybe 5000 miles all year. I will look at the axle on craigslist this weekend and may pick it up if it's in good shape. I think for my purposes it's probably the most efficient and budget-friendly solution. The only hassle will be swapping brake lines. Thanks a million for all the help everyone!
I want to say its not bad I helped rebuild a rearend in a dodge (all new bearings seals fluid clutches) and it wasn't bad. I left to get fluid and was only gone 10 min and he changed the clutches that fast.
I would get that other axle if I were you but if you don't end up getting it you could always get an eaton elocker. Its an open diff until you hit a switch which makes it a full locker and it just bolts in along with running the wires. You can get one for $700 i don't know if thats in your price range or not but its just a suggestion.
Which is why I'm just doin my hubs, control arms, ball joints, tie rod ends, and rotors and pads when I get my lift lol they all need replacing and my local shop said they would put on all that for free if I gave them the parts
