Default Cold Air Intake

looking at adding a new cold air intake to my 97 xlt 4.6L. Am curious as to whether these are really a noticable difference from the stock system performance wise. Also, prices vary widely. Is it a case of getting what you pay for as far as performance goes? Construction is not the big concern for me as this is an older truck so I dont need to overdo things price-wise. I am mainly looking for better throttle response and some fuel economy as a potential secondary benefit.

Do a Gotts Mod, and leave the aftermarket CAI's alone. They give you NOTHING that the factory box won't give you. They also turn a cold air package into a hot air package, because the filter is exposed to the engine bay heat. Stay with the factory set up and you will be much much better off. Especially on the 97-98 engines with the non=pi heads.

Type in GOTTS MOD in the search forum and you will find numerous write ups and why this is the best for our Gen 10's, especially the early years.

With your truck being a 97, you'd be better off getting an air box out of a 99+ truck. The inlet is larger. See pics....
