Click in front end differential
Issue: with front end lifted to allow the front wheels to turn. There is a click which seems to happen with each revolution (hubs locked with engine off) There is a click which can be felt and heard when rotating either front wheel seems to either be the differential or shift fork area.
Clicking can be heard while vehicle is in motion between 5mph to 15mph.
Both solenoids:
Have voltage, have vacuum, neither appear to be wet.
Still need to check vacuum lines for stability at actuators.
When placing in 4x4H there is a popping in the front.
When placing in 4x5L there is a pop directly below (presumed to be transfer case engagement)
What has been replaced:
Hubs (3 years ago)
Rotors and brakes (1month)
To be replaced:
Front drive shafts

Is the noise worse when turning? If so, my bet is a CV joint or joints. Of course, it could be a hub after three years depending on what was installed and how far you've driven. Do you have your front end lifted in any way? This can play a part in parts longevity as well.
There is no clicking between turns either way.
Note:
Upon physical inspection of front differential area, there is what can be considered play in the differential. The axle shaft connected to the differential which is bolted to the CV axle has movement when turning it by hand on the drives side. Truck on ground.
I have replaced the front shock absorbers with skyjacker hydro 7000. The truck was tilting on driver side so I adjusted the torsion bar on driver's side to level the truck.
The hubs which have been on for about three years have had a lot of driving upon them. Colorado to Texas to Colorado to Wisconsin.
Question:
Should there be any play in the differential or CV axle?
Would a broken shift fork cause a clicking?
Could there be anything in the differential which could click?
