Default Chrome cladding removal

2003 Lariat. Hi folks. Anyone have good success in removing the chrome cladding from factory wheels? Any tips or advice is much appreciated.

Does that wheel look like crap to you?

Mine don't either and they're 20 years old. Absolutely nothing wrong with the chrome wheels that came on the lariat. In fact I'd say after 20 years they hold up better than aluminum wheels... Where the clear coat finish begins to oxidize and peel... Or the non-coated ones just get corroded

It's easy to get confused, but the OP wasn't asking for opinions on whether or not to remove it...

I looked into removing the crappy coating on mine a while back, and didn't find anything that would work other than paying somebody $200-300 per wheel to blast the coating off, then powdercoat.

I ended up selling the chrome/peeling wheels and buying some painted OEM take offs.

@xcaddict
I think there is more confusion than just that. Your wheels are PVD and start to chip around the edges.

The older style chrome clad wheels the OP posted are different and they do not flake off. They hold up extremely well.

Im sorry OP, I cannot answer your question. Just wanted to clear up the confusion between PVD and chrome clad.

I believe you have aluminum wheels under the chrome cladding. What is your plan for them if you do remove the cladding?

If they were mine, I would not remove. They look great.

I have certainly seen cheap aftermarket Chrome plated wheels rust and peel. That's what everybody bought in the 1980s..... chrome plated five spoke wheels ... From some vendor like American Racing ..... Or Chrome plated mag wheels from keystone....But I've got five of these oem wheels 20 years old and they're in good shape.
