Default Chrome Bed Trim

I love the look of the chrome bed trim on some of the older trucks and the more I look at the grey plastic on my black truck Im not liking it. Does anyone make an aftermarket chrome set for our years?

Can't help you with the chrome. But I know what you mean about the gray trim. Even when it was new, it probably looked bad.
I'm not a fan of chrome, I have been little by little painting all of my gray trim with satin black.

You could probably Google up some chrome trim pretty easy.

I dont like too much chrome, but I think the early 90s bodies look really good with chrome trim on the bed and fenders and a red paint job...

Yeah maybe a satin black would be better. I almost picked up some Krylon at wal mart to paint the bumper but I was afraid it wouldnt be the same black. I use Krylon a lot for work and I know for spray paint its high quality but its still iffy on a car. I just dont think it would last more than a year outdoors...

If you dont mind me asking what method do you use to paint yours satin? Prime? What brand paint? Do you use satin clear too?

I used the Krylon Fusion. I just cleaned the parts with a 50/50 mixture of alcohol and Simple Green. Didn't scuff anything.
Sprayed 3-4 coats of paint, then 2 coats of clear coat. Easy on the clear or things will get "foggy".
I have done my tail lights, grill, and lower bumper so far. May do the rear window surround and bed rails tomorrow if it's not windy.

I have blasted everything at the car wash, and so far it is holding up perfect.

There are pics in my garage.

Looks good. I was wondering about that Fusion paint. I may have to try it. Krylon clear as well? Gloss or satin? I use the matte for work once a week and its really good but not much use in the truck world.

I did my grille with Duplicolor black and clear from Autozone. It looks good but its expensive and I wasnt sure how it would do on the softer plastic.

Did you pop them all off or just mask the heck out of it?

I believe it was Krylon clear as well. I originally did my grill with gloss, but didn't like the look of it, re sprayed with a coat of satin. The gloss looks like it was painted, the satin looks like it was molded that color.

I took the grill out following the steps I found online. can't remember where, try and Google it, and spent alot of time cleaning every nook and cranny, twice.
Same with the tail lights.

Every thing else I have just been masking off. Too much trouble to remove the bigger things.

Sounds good. I removed the grille when I painted it as well. Getting the grille itself wasnt as much work as getting to it hehe.

I want to do the bumper as well, cant decide if I want to mask it or take it off. I might leave it on.

Did they just pop off and back on no trouble?

I was debating on paint vs liner....I wouldnt mind the front grey bumper part being liner...just hesitant about DIY kits.

they pop off, but you have to be very careful, and use a lot of careful force.
