I take it you mean a programmer or computer chip (other than the cheap crappy ones sold on Ebay).

There are many, many discussions on this forum that discusses the pros and cons of programmers/chips...to explain it here would mean a very long thread...

Quickly put, they change the perimeters of your computer to increase RPM, change shift points, change speedo for different tires, can go into fuel economy mode to save fuel, etc, etc... The driver tears **** up, not the programmer/chip....

Chips are for eating and programers are for power. And these trucks want be affected enough by a programer to make it tear up anything unless you just act crazy stupid. Don't get me wrong it will wake them up but not like on a diesel.

A good flasher (SCT X3 etc) with custom tunes by a reputable tuner will really make a nice improvement on a gas truck and allow you to adjust for cold air intakes, headers, big tires, gears, etc. They won't get you anything even close to the 50-150hp that diesels get and will not hurt anything.

I just bought me a chip a couple days ago and I love it! I was really regretting buying one because I also wasn't for sure if it was worth it. My friend encouraged me to buy one and now I have no regrets. I spent $150 on mine and you can tell the difference. I have more power but the main thing is gas mileage. I just filled up today and was pretty much gassin it the last 3 days so I coud empty my gas tank and put the 91 octane in. My gas mileage was 15. I consider that pretty good for gassing it and for that being in the city. This next tank I will test it out and see how good my gas mileage can get and I will let you know.
