I have the same problem... it's just an O2 sensor in one of the cats. Easy fix just replace the problematic O2 and maybe a cat

Not a big deal. One end bolts into the cat and the other end is an electrical connector. They might be rusted in there. I have the same years as you and there are 4 sensors total. I pulled my inner ender off to get to the passengers side upper sensor. It was rusted tight and I ended up using the torch to get it out. The code reader should tell you exactly which sensor it is though.

i would change o2 sensors. or at least the one thats bad. It can cause the vehicle to run lean, cant it? And if it is running too rich or too lean, that can eventually damage the cats. I just learned recently that O2 sensors run a random check every 3 cycles.

maybe a little bit. Im not sure exactly how much if at all it does. I would think it can because if its affecting proper fuel mixture, and ur not getting that proper mix, yes your milage may go down.
As far as taking it in....most auto parts store allows you to check you codes, and they should be able to tell you which one is bad, free of charge I may say. and changing to O2 sensor is a pretty easy fix.

Just change them to avoid problems, it takes maybe 10 minutes considering you dont even have to jack the truck up. The sensors I dont think cost too much either.
