changing plugs????
Searched and seemed to find conflicting answers. I have a 97 f150 5.4L. I want to change the plugs myself. It has separate coils for each plug, do i need to remove the fuel rail to remove the coils?
The repair manual i have does not mention this step, but the fuel rails seem like they need to be removed because the coils are almost touching them. Some people on this site said they did it without removal and didnt go into detail as to how they did it. i dont see how this is possible with the clearance. If i remove the fuel rail do i need new rubber seals for the injectors?

I changed my spark plugs without taking the fuel rail out. It took me about 3 hours though with another person helping me. The weren't the easiest things to take out, but better then paying someone else to do it!
i pulled the fuel rail. I couldn't get the COP out with it on there. Made it much eisier. And since the Rubber gaskets are just like $10 per side I replaced them all. I don't know if you have to. I read somewhere if they are in good shape you don't have to. I did it just as a preventitive measure and since so cheep figured go ahead and do while have it off.

I've never pulled the rails to change plugs. Simply unplugging injectors is enough. Injectors can be turned if nec. Coil boots are flexible enough to get 'em out. A good plug socket with flexible adaptor will make life a little easier.
