When my buddy and I changed my pads all we did was pull the ABS sensor out. I don't remember anything else. And my ABS light isn't on.

I'm guessing here but the sensor is probably mounted in the spindle or caliper mounting bracket (not on the caliper) it references off a tone ring on either the rotor or hub for wheel speed. You shouldn't have to remove this if you are just replacing the pads. The only thing that could possibly happen is if you were to accidentally push it out and away from the rotor or hub, causing too much air gap and the speed signal to be lost, thus throwing an ABS code. Just pull the caliper, swap the pads and you should be fine.

It is in the wheel hub assembly (the part you would change if your wheel bearing went bad)...

... I wouldn't worry about it dude, you don't have to disconnect it to change pads n rotors... but ^^^ There's the plug if you insist

perfect thanks alot guys i really appreciate it.
the only reason i asked was because on my dads mechanics did this to his same year and the ABS light came on and it was a fairly expensive fix from ford im not sure why.

and since i dont work today its a good reason to take some fresh pictures

Haha nice... Well the only thing I've heard and I kon't know if it's a Proven problem or not but

I've heard you should open your bleeders when pressing the caliper piston back in because if you have any contamination in the fluid it can back into the different valves of that box that you see the lines from the master cylinder go into (anti lock pump and valve system)... And I've heard it's expensive to fix/bleed cuz of the valving inside... but like I said, I've never had a problem and never worried about it WITH proper maintenance... Just trying to think why someone would get an ABS light from a simple brake job... I know it happens but...

Over the summer I had bled my entire brake system and the garbage I took out of there was unreal!! I poured it into a soda bottle and it literally was darker than a bottle of Pepsi, Gross! So I guess if I didn't do that there's a possibility of that crap gettin into the valve sys... But those valves should all be shut (or wide open in ABS talk) when the truck's off and not rollin

Sorry for the storybook
