I don't know about throwing codes, but I'm pretty sure removing cats can be a $50,000 fine per one removed. Well at least that's what I was told by an exaust shop. I would just leave them alone.

Some people throw codes, and some people don't. If you have a tuner you can clear them though.

ok so ive done alot of research on the same question cuz i want to do the sam thing to my 99 f150 4x4. what you do if take it to a small local shop and take the back to cats out and gut them so that it still looks like it there or i mean...i highly doubt that anyine is going to crawl under ur truck and see if your back to cats are there...i mean you still have the front 2 anyways...but noit shouldnt throw a code because the o2 sensor is before the back cats...all they really are, are resonators more than catalytic converters...

That fine only applies to repair shops. If they get caught they are subject to a fine. What u do to ur car urself is ur business, as long as it passes emissions is all they care.

ive also been thinking of this, i just got inspected and they didn't even check exhaust. all they did was honk the horn and stay in the truck and put turn signals on.... how do i trick the rear o2 sensors tho?
