Default catalytic converter

Okay i am planning on cutting my catalytics out to make my truck a little louder but i talked to a guy who said that if i did that it would throw my truck off an make it run like crap. Is this true? If so can some explain to me how it would mess with anything,

You can cut them out no problem, but you would need a custom tune to compensate for them gone, just cut the back two out, makes a big difference for little money

I cut my back two out, and made a big difference in sound. Truck ran the same, and I got no SE light, and did not get a tune to tune them out. I'm not saying you don't need a tune, but my truck runs fine, and gas mileage stayed the same.

Well he said that cause your cats monitor the unburned gas going through I think So by cutting those out.. You risk messing up your engine.. It can happen.. Doesn't always happen but can. Plus it's very illegal to cut your cats out. And you won't pass emissions. but this is coming from a guy that's wants to do it as well lol so I'd say just do it.. Your not in trouble till you get caught. So just don't get caught.

You will loose backpressure if you cut the cats, and you will lose power. So yes, cutting the cats is worthless. LEAVE THEM THERE!

No cats means your O2 sensors will set a code. They measure before and after the cat. You would have to get O2 sensor simulators. They run like $75 each and tell the pcm that the cats are working. Hollowed and/or missing cats are illegal as well as the sensors. You're better off spending your time, effort, and cash elsewhere on your truck as your cat really isn't impeding performance to a degree that would be beneficial to you. You might actually lose power due to a decrease in backpressure.

I'm a licensed state vehicle inspector.... I would fail your truck for this.
