The best way is to take the pipes out of there. You gotta take the cross member out that holds up the transmission (block up the tranny) and take the two sides of the y-pipe apart at the connection. Then just take all the bolts loose.
When I got it all out I just used a cut-off wheel and cut around the edge of the cat, all except one edge. Then I just pried it up like a lid, tore the stuff out and welded it back together. Then put em back in!

I thought that the remaining cats would pick up the slack lol....ive been reading and some say that if both 02 sensors are in the pipe you wont throw a cell light
no on the smog question, you can smell your carbon footprint after the cat removal... and I've heard of guys sticking a couple spark plug non-foulers on their rear O2 sensors to keep the light from coming on. I think there is a tutorial in the How-to section.
