Hey guys, I'm trying mount two back up lights on the top of my bumper and I cannot drill through the metal. I started with a small drill bit made if titanium and I wrecked it (used cutting fluid). Then I tried a masonry bit and also wrecked it.. Do I just need to but a diamond tipped bit? Any advice? Thanks guys

 

Unless it's concrete a masonry bit is no good. Use a good sharp bit. I would start small also, like 1/8" and work up to desired size. Do not press extra hard just constant pressure.

She's busy. Well if was my girl she would be.

 

And dont run your drill too fast or the bit will heat too much and dull or break

Well maybe you're doing it wrong. Lol It would be funny if it turned out you were running the drill in reverse..

 

Sounds like you have some dull bits. Did you use a punch for a start point?

 

Titanium , mason bit lol. Titanium isn't a very good choice. Mason bit, hey it has a carbide tip right!! Yep, but Nope!

You just need the correct bit and it'll run right thru it.. - Like butter.

Get a GOOD Cobalt bit. If your not sure what one is, just say so.

 

I prefer HSS bits. They liked to be run fast, and can cut just about any metal with a little bit of coolant.
