I'd do it with mine, but not with an OE bumper.

 

I've witnessed a chevy celebrity pull an early 90's cougar on a tandem axle trailer. After seeing that, I would not question if an F150 could pull a 1959 Cadillac with a family of five inside, with wheels removed and no trailer at all. But yeah never on a bumper hitch, I wouldn't tow much of anything with a bumper hitch.

 

Depends on the bumper and the vehicle. I wouldn't do it with a 10th gen or on F150 with a aftermarket bumper unless the owner had gone in their and replaced the weak OE bumper mounts riveted to the frame (like what I did) and had made other modifications to handle the weight. Then if secured using grade 8's (remember 4 3/8" bolts are what is required for most 40 ton pintles), you could easily make a bumper that will handle more weight than the frame (like what I did).

That being said, hitches didn't come around until the late 70's. Everything before that was off the bumper, which is why non-gooseneck/5th wheel trailers are known as bumper pulls.
