Default Camper shell owners

I've been thinking about getting a fiberglass camper shell for my truck but if I do I would like to have a rack like the ones Off Road Unlimited have. Does anyone know if a shell could support the weight of a rack like that?

yes. most of them can be ordered with the mounting points already installed. they are more then strong enough once on the truck. i've walked on mine. ARE uses Yakima racks. mine was $1200 new without racks. it was another $400 with but that was 4 years ago so chances are price has gone up.

Yeah i have stood on mine as well. Actually how i get up high enough to get on my roof, lol. As long as the load isnt all in the middle of the shell you should be fine.

Thanks for the input guys I was wanting to get a totally different look with the truck. I thought a camper shell with a rack on it with lights on the front and the spare tire on it would be pretty sweet.

It should look good. I've been wanting to do this for a while too. Just havent done it yet. I would look around on craigslist for a topper for your truck first, then go from there. The things arent cheap thats for sure.

First I'm trying to convince my wife on it, she's not a topper fan. But I am shopping on Craigslist and waiting for a good deal to show up.

Man, if I had a hundred bucks! My camper top is messed up on the two front corners, needs fiberglass repair. And the previous owner painted it my trucks color, only they didn't use primer, just painted right over the white paint and didn't clear coat it. Needless to say, camper no longer matches and looks horrible. But, it works.
