Default Cal and var

So driving home from work today and I looked at the temp on my truck and it said 91 NE. And in between was the word cal so I thought to myself it must mean calibrating since I've never really seen anything weird up there so I held the button down

and then var popped up and I hit the button and the numbers went up to like 15 or something like that and then back down to zero and I couldn't remember what it was at so I put it at 5

anyone know what it means (cal) and (var) I looked in my glove compartment for my owners manual buy somehow it grew legs so I'm just kind of worried it is a sign something needs to be replaced

An to top it off my SES light popped its ugly head out of my dash too just after I fueled up and I checked my gas cap and it was on tight

Haven't got around to pulling a code so I'm just gonna cross my fingers for a small cheap inexpensive fix for that one

Just because your gas cap is tight doesnt mean you still dont have an evap leak. Could be any connection down the line to the fuel take as well
