Default CAI or Gotts mod in v6

Has anyone put either a cai or did the gotts in the 4.2L v6. If so was there any increase or is it better to just leave stock. Thanks

I did the GOOTS Mod to my 97 4.2.....So now the good and the bad. Throttle response is better but feels inconstant like too much air is coming in for my stock exhaust to expell. I went with this mod as opposed to a CAI due to the fact that I'm always in mud and sand. My stock airbox is covered after every shift so I didn't want the filter element covered with that. I'm sure with the GOTTS a K/N filter and aftermarket exhaust the gains of a CAI would be the same as GOTTS. Hope that helps.

I'm actually sorta concerned. I think I'm gonna take mine off. I made mine to just go through the first hole, now my airbox is full of grit. Does the space between the first hole and second hole go to where tire grit is thrown?

It should not give you a bing amout of grit if you extend the PVC coupling about half an inch past the first metal hole into the fender. That is what I did with mine. The stock part is fluted to stave off crud so thats why you go into the hole a bit, to simulate this. I drive in the absolute worst conditions. Sand and mud on 19,000 acres of oil sites and I have to move really fast. It should not be flinging stuff from the tires, You might check that you have an overlap of the PVC into the hole and check the plastic wheel well dust cover to see if it is in place or if a section is loose or missing.
CAI is great it just wouldn't work for me with the amout of crap ends up in the engine compartment so GOTTS does the best for my situation.
