Default A/C Compressor Brands?

Just wondering if any of you have any experience with the aftermarket A/C compressors. I'll be buying one for mine soon, and I was looking at a Four Seasons unit... but I've never bought a compressor before, and I don't know if they are any good. What else would be better? I am hoping someone with experience will help a Bro out.

Thanks in advance.

I believe the 4 seasons brand has been around quite a while and is reputable.

I replaced my compressor with a Four Seasons on my 99 Mustang GT, it failed within a year. Replaced that one with an OE Motorcraft compressor and it lasted another 4 years until I sold the car. IMO I wouldn't sacrifice quality to save some cash, cause chances are you'll be replacing it again.

I'd highly recommend replacing the accumulator and flushing the condenser/evaporator when you change the compressor.

Ive rebuilt a bunch of ac units.
Always use a new oem compressor if you are keeping vehicle.

Never ever use a reman unless selling it next day. And maybe not then.

Just myo

With the total cost of rebuild everything when compressor fails and fills system with debris, being $1000-1500, saving 100 on a cheap compressor and risking it all falls under category of retarded. Not to mention the sheer time and trouble of pulling evaporator cores to replace.

Shop around. Prices can vary signficantly.
I used to get new ac delco compressors for z71s cheaper than offbrands, but only from one place. They were $100 more everywhere else. Compressor was poor design and prone to fail, but copies were worse.

I'm kind of stuck here. In order for me to do this, I'd need to buy gauges and a vacuum.... as well as all of the parts. I've never done anything but add a little Freon on systems thus far, so this is a new animal. For curiosity sake, I called the local shop that will replace the whole system (except condenser and the deal in the dash, for $890. They will guarantee it will work for 2 years. I'll probably be at least 600 in parts and tools, plus I just had back surgery in April.... so I am not exactly thrilled about laying on my back, etc.

I did manage to climb under the truck to take a couple of pics though....

That's kind of what I am thinking. I would love to do this on my own, but I really can't afford to hurt my back again.

Denso

Is the compressor leaking? If the compressor failed you need to replace everything especially the condenser. Is your Refrigerant contaminated? Don't let a shop without Refrigerant Analyzer connect their tools to your AC. Contaminated equipment can contaminate your AC.

The refrigerant is more than likely not contaminated. The condenser is going to get flushed, not replaced.

I just dropped it off about an hour ago.... and they had one hell of a line. I hope it gets done today.

Sounds like it could get expensive, glad mine still works, knock on wood.

Honestly, hardly ever used it. Once this year so far and it did okay...did the job. Probably could of blew a little cooler, - can't be in the best shape after all these years.
