A/C stopped working and when I checked it out, I found that the clutch hub was gone.
Installed a new one yesterday but its still not working.
The air gap is excessive, even with no shims installed.
When I turn on the AC, the magnetic force is felt at the hub, (it will suck a hammer to it), but it's not enough to engage it, given the excessive gap.
Wondering if the face of the pulley has been worn down somehow? Anyone know the measurements? Not sure why that gap is so large.
Would you all recommend I try to replace just the pulley or just buy a wbole clutch kit?
Any other ideas or tests I sbould do?
Compressor spins freely and r134 pressure readings are good.
you'll need to remove the compressor to replace the pulley on a bench. It's got to be pressed on. so you might as well just buy a new compressor. The f150 compressors are cheap. I wouldn't hesitate to go with a denso they are OE for a lot of vehicles. in fact that's probably the only compressor besides the OE compressor I would go with.

Not always necessary....I was able to remove the pulley with ease with the compressor still in. The hardest part was the snap ring. The pulley slid on and off with a slight drag to it. If your going to change the coil, then that is pressed on and may require removal of the compressor, however it can be done with it still mounted, just requires a lot more patience and work while in a confined space.
