i have a 2000 4.6 lariat with 169,000 miles on it. i have relied that my coolant is always brown even just after having my radiator flushed. it has been like this for over 4 year and yet i haven never had high engine temps and my oil levels have never changed. i have no clue what could be wrong as i am not the most experienced car guy in the world, just looking if any of you Smart guys would know whats going on.
It would be really helpful to see the pictures of said "brown" coolant is you have some. If it looks like this, and is not a green coolant specified, then looking like this is perfectly normal.
No flush info, stuff used, how you preform the procedure..4 years is too long for one IMO....well for the most part, but that depends how you went about it and again, what you put in there. A proper coolant flush is one of the most critical procedures, must be done right IF you want engine longevity.
Iduno, after whites post, I no longer know how to answer this correctly. Personally, I've never seen coolant look brown and be perfectly normal.
I've always went by the manual myself. I'm going to pull up a chair on this one to see what the deal is.
If you've had it flushed every 8 mths that's GREAT! Actually over excessive, but that's great, much better than the ladder anyway, which is usually always the case IME. You should be alright if that brown meets or exceeds the factory fill and recommendations. Hell, if your going to over do it on anything, changing coolant and the oil more often is a big winner!
Hopefully white will explain this one a bit.
EDIT: Crap, I hadn't seen the two posts above mine before posting.
