Exclamation Broken Column Shifter

Hi everyone, just like to start of saying thanks, ive been using this forum for months for tips and tricks to tackle some real tough issues with my truck. all which have helped a ton. now i have a problem i cant quite find the answer to so here goes.

the column shifter in my '01 f-150 xlt is broken to the point that it moves freely all the way up and down with out catching any gears. theres still enough tension that it will stay up if i put it there, but it will not catch or shift any gears. ive had the truck for a little over a year, and since ive bought it, the shift lever has had to be shoved into park with some force in order for the ignition to register that it was actually in park. One day i went to park it and when i went to put it in park i heard a crack.( i immediately knew i had broken it. ive looked for a diagram and am not real sure what it could be exactly. so any help that any of you could give would be awesome! thanks in advance!

Sounds to me like a broken shifter linkage.

Look on the drivers side of the trans mission there should be a little bar with a piece of plastic on the end that's probably what broke, was it cold out when you shoved it into park when it broke?
