Default Brake swap

I have a 97 f-150 4x4 with rear drums. Thinking about swapping them out with disc. Would it be worth my time or too expensive? I have had it since it had 19,000 miles on it and the brakes have Never been "quite right." If I have to panic stop, or stop with a load then I may as well Flintstone it and hope for the best. Suggestions?

Unless you can go to a junkyard and find an axle with the rear disc brakes that fits our truck then its just not worth the time and money, i was contemplating that too but instead i just got some cross drilled front brake rotors and ebc pads and now my truck stops ALOT faster
