Box removal
Anyone here have a how to or any pictures on the steps to removing the box on a 2000 sc flareside? Also how long it would take? This is not something i have to do but i am thinking about doing it in the springtime when i repaint my truck...... im thinking of blasting the frame as well and making everything new and clean, i plow with this truck and surprisingly i only have a little surface rust on 1 door , frame and floors are still clean, i wash the underside every week tho so salt dont eat away my truck.
You will have to remove all the bolts that you see in the bed. I would recommend spraying a penetrating oil were the bolts go into the frame. Next unbolt the gas tank filler neck from inside the gas tank door. The final disconnect would be the light wiring harness.
Before lifting the bed slide it back a couple of inches before lifting due to cab design you will scratch the cab if you lift straight up. If you don't have help lifting get a engine hoist and strap all 4 corners to lift.

yup, easy to remove. There is a "hose clamp holding the fuel filler tube to the box that I never knew was there. Also place some cardboard/blankets between the cab and the box just incase there is too much moving around when you lift the box

check out my garage, the white one was a rollover write off with 134000km's it's a 7700 the same as my Gold one. The gold one has a burnt exhaust valve. I am putting the body from the gold one on the white frame. I have a 3rd 7700 that I original bought for parts ($2500) but it was a stolen truck. It was seized but I bought it back from the insurance company for an additional $3500 with just over 100,000km's.
I have lots,... LOTS of pictures of the white one as I am stripping it down, email me for more pictures if needed.
yes all 3 7700's are extended cab shortbox 4x4's white one and gold one are 2001 XLT's and the blue is a 2003 Lariat

I get pretty **** about when I work on the trucks. There are six bolts that are torx head T-50 I believe, and they remove from the top. The frame has what is called t-nuts. These are nuts welded to a clip that slips over the frame and hold the nut inplace. The only problem is the get rusted really good under there. Soak them for a few days and crack them loose. I got all but one bolt out when I took my bed off. The one that stripped, the nut let go of the clip and would just spin around. Tried the vice-grip thing but there was no way it was coming out. I finally took a cutting disc to it on my grinder. You will see the bolt sticking up in the pictures. I also removed the wiring harness for the rear lic.plate lights. This harness runs through holes in the box. In you case cause you are re-installing the box, you could just undo the lights at the bumper and leave the harness with the box. There are 3 bolts that hold the filler neck to the box, remove these and there is also a hose clamp that holds the filler neck to the box. The clamp is right by the frame, look there and you will see it. Now I think on the flareside there are some support brakets along the sides that come off as well. Not sure on that part as mine was a styleside
here are some pictures for all to see. Rather then send info to just one person maybe this will help others too
