How long can I safely leave my block heater plugged in?

 

Over night.

If you're worried, get an indoor/outdoor timer like this or the 24 hour ones that people use for christmas lights (couldn't find it based on my search). You set them to start at 6am and shut off at 8am or whatever your schedule is. http://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-Indoor...5143/202530073

I had one and ran a space heater and block heater. Nothing like getting into a pre-warmed easy to start truck in the dead of winter.

 

I was jw because I work nights so in the dead of winter would it be safe to leave it plugged in all day

 

You can leave it plugged in for as long as you want, they're self regulating. Just remember to unplug it, or you'll be that guy driving down the road with an extension cord dangling behind him.

 

Bump. What have people seen installed on these trucks.
The stick on trans pan or engine block?

 

Mine came with the block heater so it's a true block heater, for the coolant I'm sure

 

Ok so I plugged er in and the temp only got up to 98. I was using my superchips to monitor the temp

 

So whats the problem? Idk about you but around here that would be a 120 degree increase from our coldest nights.

OH ****. I just realized you're in texas. Wtf do you need a block heater for? Lol. 60 degrees does not require a block heater.

 

Do all the f150s from 97-03 come with the block heater? I could really use it. If it does where is the best place to look for it at. I seen couple people said it was by the front license but I didn't see one there.

 

If you plug it in all day you're wasting a lot of electricity, and my recollection from my old CJ-7 is that they use a lot. I use to set the heavy duty timer for 2 hours before I would drive it and that worked great.

And, as mentioned, 98 is just fine. But if it's not 20 degrees out why on earth do you need it?
