Besides doing a basic tune up..
Cai, Exhaust which you have. And you can do a tuner. SCT with custom tunes from Troyer or VMP. Or get a Gryphon(rebadged Edge) and get custom tunes. I have the Gryphon but have not recieved my custom tunes yet. You can also do E-fans and Underdrive pulleys. They will free up some HP and give you a solid 1mpg gain.
I have heard mixed reviews of doing E-fans when towing depending on where you live. But I think with custom tunes it shouldn't be a big deal.

efans + upd? That should cost what? Maybe $600? with a 1mpg gain, it will take you like 55k miles to earn that money back. Just a thought.

you can get UDPs pretty cheap and if you shop around for efans you can get them for under 200. So I would say the total is closer to 300-450 depending on how much you shop around.

Thanks for the support Crash.. I live in LA..so the govt. estimate is always low on mpg stated on the sticker. As stated previously, I get over 19 on the highway with the cruise on @ 65 mph or less. Over that and you are fighting too much wind. IE interstate driving.
From what I"ve been told...never done it myself...but the best mpg mod is a cat back exhause system with headers. Big money but it is the best mpg increase per single item mod. So I've been told.

As a side note to your previous statement BigRed, the sticker reflects the average of the vehicle across different climates and elevation. Hence my reference to the state I live in.

Okay, that isn't too bad. But still for only a 1mpg gain? It is going to take a fair bit of time to get that back. I am definitely not trying to talk anybody out of it... just making sure that the "to get better MPG" is NOT the only reason, because it isn't the best reason. Not a bad one, just not that great

Yeah, now that it is really cold up here in MN she is having a hard time getting 12mpg. I swear my other 01 that i had never got that bad of mileage. It was the same truck except a super cab and not a crew. If this keeps up i am getting another diesel in the spring. Especially if i have to put head gaskets in this thing too.
