bed weight and trailer weight
i have a 97 f150 xlt extended cab 4x4 with the 5.4, im really curious on how much weight i can put in the bed and how big of a trailer i can pull
The automatics are rated to like 10000 lbs. It's a half ton truck, so your probably looking at 1200 lbs in the bed. Tounge weight on the trailer can only be 1000 lbs though, hitches aren't rated to anymore unless you move to a gooseneck. It's not how big of a trailer, but how heavy. Your average 30hp tractor comes in right around 6500 lbs with the trailer required to handle it between 1500 and 2000 lbs.
none, adding more springs will add nothing to the capacity of the truck. you cant just add more springs and magically have a 3/4 or 1 ton truck, it just doesnt work that way.
technically yes but its not the right way to do it. It will allow you to haul the weight without sagging as much but the actual safe loading capacity will not change. when ford rates these trucks they take into consideration many variables besides spring rates such as brakes, wheelbase, axles, gear ratio, vehicle weight, wheel/ tire size, frame strength ect. If you need a truck to haul more than the rated amount of your half ton you need to upgrade to a bigger truck. Also, the most Im seeing for trailer weight for your truck (not knowing your wheel/ tire size and axle ratio) is 7,700 pounds.
couldnt find the gear ratio, but 7700 sounds about right. aand im not gonna be doing such bigger loads that im gonna need a bigger truck, i got add a leafs to be on the safe side so i can put a little more weight in the bed if i need too
