Battery Light
Need some input,
I have a 2001 F150. The battery light stays on when I start the truck and the charging gage shows steady (+) charging. While driving with lights on there is no light flicker or deeming of any lights. I have a broken front driver side directional light, could that now cause this effect?
Thank you for any help

Doubt it.. unless there are some exposed wires that may be touching.. how old is your battery.. there should be an in service date stamped on the battery. The positive charge means that the Alt is charging the battery but, It could be trying to charge a weak or dying battery. If you have a multimeter you could troubleshoot by reading the DCV with the truck off..should have at least 12-13 VDC .. then start the truck and read again.. should see 13-14 VDC if Alt is working.

The battery was replaced 8 months ago when a new alternator was installed. I agree with you on the directional light as I removed it and no change. Last night I trickle charged my battery but when my charger was hooked up the battery showed full (12.7).
So what should I check next?

I'll check it out, Alternator was purchased at NAPA auto parts and all was installed by a reputable garage and Mechanic here in Sun City Center Florida along with battery. I'll do the multi-meter right now.
thank you

Just because you had the Alt installed by a Reputable Mechanic don't mean your cheap re-manufactured part has not gone bad. 8 months old it should still be under warranty. A bad voltage regulator in a cheaply re-built Alt will cause the charge light to illuminate all day long.
Just checked the battery with a multi-meter and read 12 .6 and with engine running needle on meter went to 12.6. With all lights on reading was the same. Is the voltage regulator in the alternator or some where else?
Ok I get it, the regulator is in the alternator and even thou I paid $150.00 for the alternator, it could be a bad part inside.
Well looks like our mechanic will be seeing me this next Monday.
Thanks for the in put again.
