Battery Choices! HELP!!!
Hey everyone again I have an 01 5.4 4x4 with a few mods. Full LED conversion including the dash and instrument lighting. Rear offroad lights that are wired in to the battery terminals correctly. Front off road LED lights wired in as well. My model also has for lights and I have electronic 4x4. I wish I had the old school shifter btw this whole vacuum system is BS in my opinion. I need a good strong battery that can handle all of my toys. Let me hear opinions on AGM vs Traditional flooded cell, what are the best brands etc. The truck was stolen and recovered but the battery was gone. It was a brand new O'Reilly's Extreme group 65 battery 850 CCA 1040CA but i have heard with all the electeonics I power an AGM or "gel cell" would be a better way to go. Thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated
The alternator needs to output enough amps to run everything and recharge the battery for the next start.
The battery is only really used to start the engine, but I usually get the largest amps battery that will fix in the stock box.
Most OEM alternators these days are 100-140 amps, but when adding lights, stereos, etc. you need an alternator pushing more amps, say 180-220.
The LED lights use a lot less amps than halogens so that is good.
Connecting more leads directly to the battery is not that great, either.
Most cable corrosion occurs near the battery posts.
I run one large cable from the positive battery post to an isolated positive post on the fender and connect everything there.
