Default bad mpg?...

Hey guys, i have a 99 xlt 4.6 2wd
in the past 3 months, ive replaced the fuel filter, had a full fuel injection cleaner service, full tune up with all new spark plugs and wires, switched to ethanol free gas, and some other stuff, but i still cant get above 14mpg... i know that since i cruise to and from work about 30 miles a day at 75mph that cuts it down but i wouldnt think by that much.. any help?

I've heard that driving above 55mph decreases gas mileage considerably. You might check your air filter and also the pressure on your tires.

The 55 thing is a myth considering how high trucks are geared today. I drive 60-75mph everyday and used to get 19 mpg in my 4.2. Now I'm lucky to get 14 at 55 mph and pull right at 14 at 70. My mileage has significantly dropped over the last 60K miles.

The next thing I'd do is your o2 sensors and clean your Maf and throttle body.

Try using premium gas. It's supposed to make you go further....

Couple of things..

1. It's a truck, not a Prius.

2. How many miles are on the truck? Have you noticed increased oil consumption or loss of power? Engines wear out and when they do, they become less effiicient. A compression check will tell you a lot about the condition of your engine.

3. Driving style has a lot to do with MPG. Jackrabbiting, constant throttle changes, lots of mashing throttle to pass all hurt MPG.

If you want better gas mileage, pretend there is an egg under your pedals....

you cant use premium gas if the engine is not set up for it, and i use ethanol free already.

and i used to mash the pedal everywhere but the past month ive been pretty good about accelerating slowly and whatnot
