Cut every bit of emissions out as well as the muffler, you will. That's why LB7's are so hard to find. No emissions from the factory. My buddy gets 21 in his LBZ (same engine as yours) with a 4" lift. I pull 29 in my fathers 06 5.9 Cummins which is completely stock other than the oversized tires.
21 for a Duramax is somewhat believable.. But 29 for ANY truck other than a 22re 2wd Toyota, nope.. Sorry I call complete BS.

Yet I still do it. 900 miles from Austin, TX to Pueblo, CO and pulled 29.7. 60 miles from Westcliffe, CO to Salida, CO and pulled 31.2. When you put oversized tires on a 4.10 rear end, makes a difference in mileage. Not to mention that the engine makes 650 lb-ft of torque at 1600 rpm (about 60 mph in OD) and at 70 is only running 1900 rpm. If you look at the B series engines, you will find they are the most efficient engines in their class. Most my friends pull 26-27 in their 4wd Common Rail Dodges. This is a 2wd Common Rail...
This is through hills too. You say BS that's downhill, I'll show you the downhill. Ran it From Wescliffe to Pueblo and had 45 buy the time I got there.
