Automatic transmission master kit I've been told my f150 98 4x4 4.6L requires to work properly.
A weird thing that happens is that when i go in a slope and the car cant go up.. instead of getting stuck, slipping or just engine off.. it starts shaking like crazy and wont go up. Lifting a lot of dust and making me worry something is going to break.
A friend told me i need to change the clutch and other orings/pieces inside the automatic transmission. Sounds like this product from amazon.
Also i have this weird sensation that its not shifting properly (laggy shift)... 400.000km and i bet the transmission never had a proper maintenance or replacement
I remember when I had mine rebuilt the mechanic ordered from a company called Trans star. Said he's been using those kits for 20+ years.
There's so many retailers selling kits I'd be very careful on which one you do use. There's nothing more that'll tick you off than having to go into it again.
But what ever kit you do decide on, also go with a B&M shift improver kit. I have one & it shifts crisp, no tire chirping, no neck snapping just a firm shift so the clutches don't overlap.

Yes. Use it in addition to the master kit. You may have a few duplicate gaskets between the two. Remember with the shift improver kit, you'll have to do some drilling of the valve body.
There are step by step instructions. As for the master kit, call around and ask what they use. Look for a kit that has good clutches & steels, also with Timken bearings.
All master kits are not made the same!
After a few months of testing, fixing, i can now reply this forum thread.
Ok, There are a lot of small things this truck required attention. I'll try to list it here:
4x4 was not enabled due to solenoids being off. Tested the vacuum and ended by changing them for dorman version with a little roof. 4x4 is enabled now, and it climbs really well.
timing chain is new, it was loose on one side. now it has a good torque and climbs really well. It feels very responsive now in off-road.
I carried no weight back then, I just tried to climb a slope of around 25-35 degrees, approximately. can't measure it well.
about having no heat, the hoses that connect to the heater core were removed (who know why). and the a/c cabin air filter was removed and blocked with a fluffy thing. I hate it when previous owners don't take care of their cars and don't say it all when selling it. Anyways, as i mentioned: small things. it's getting fixed now. no big deal.
about the right temp... I flushed the old coolant and refill with new. changed temp sensor, and thermostat, changed water pump, fan and it's clutch. new serpentine and pulleys. It's running like new. But I've noticed the temp gauge still sits in C in the dashboard.
After a few thousands of research in google, i found something called "temp sender". it's location is next to the temp sensor. I removed it the other day and it's all rusty and crispy. THAT's the responsible to send the info to the dashboard, and I was thinking... what other relationship that sender has with the rest of the engine? I'll know in a few weeks when the replacement part arrives....
another thing I noticed is that the trans oil is over the max, according to the measurement thing in the engine bay. The manual says slippage and other failure can occur if it's overfilled. and we also found that the radiator has a leakage of the trans oil.
I wonder.. a leakage can reduce pressure, and that can augment heat of the system which can lead to failures? So many things to understand about cars... never had an automatic transmission before.
Even though my native language is Spanish, I think i understand the word "slippage". While driving, I've felt a few times feel like the automatic transmission goes retard and "forgets" to shift. the rpm keeps going up 3000rpm, and then -jumps- back to 2000rpm with a little bump in the car, like the wind blows the car back. and it returns to normal. I've noticed this is common between gear 3rd and 4th (only in overdrive on - default)
Some say you shouldn't touch it or change it's oil, so previous owners never did. I found out in the manual that we should change the oil. so i tried to flush what it can through the oil pan. but there's more in the torque converter inside the tranny. I believe I'll only find out if using this master kit when i install it, along with the B&M shift improver.
