Default Auto Transmission question

Hey my Ford family. I have a 2000 xlt 5.4 v8. I've notced lately that when I shift into gear that the orange marker that shows you what gear you're in is not all the way on the gear ( R N D 2 1). I was wondering if this is a future trans problem to look out for or am I just being a little paranoid??? I just dont have the money for a tranny repair these days! The transmission shifts automatically ok. I dont feel any jerks or hesitations, and I dont hear any noises. Any info is greatly appreciated!!!!

It's also funny that you're making fun of someone with a legitimate question without any suggestions on a remedy to the problem.

To the original poster, if you want, you can adjust this. There is a wheel that has a small lock on it that goes from the shifter column to the transmission. There may be a zip-tie in place to keep the lock from jarring itself loose.
If it's there cut it and dispose of it, then push up on the little lock/key that keeps the little wheel from spinning.
Keep your hand on that wheel and look to the dash indicator and adjust as necessary, put the lock back into place, then zip it it.

Easy as pie.

Let me know if you need a pic of it, and I'll post it.

Remove the plastic cover on the steering column, the adjuster wheel should be visible to adjust the indicator. If something is broken, then it gets a little more complicated.

Here's a pic I just took.

I was on my back, with the pedals under my head. The "S" on the left side is where the steering wheel is located, the "E" designates the engine side.

Inside the yellow box is what you want to use to adjust where the orange transmission indicated is pointed towards. Pull up on the white "lock" (I pulled it up for the picture), the turn the black wheel as needed. Mine has a copper colored cable coming from it, but yours may differ.

I hope that helps you. Good Luck!
